Welcome to the website of St. Mary’s in Penwortham

“A  caring and welcoming Christian community, seeking to involve all people in God’s family.”

In addition to Service times, the church is open every Thursday from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon when all are welcome to visit and enjoy some refreshments.

St. Mary’s is an Anglican church and is the parish church of the Ancient Parish of Penwortham. In these pages you can find out about us and what we do and a little about the town of Penwortham. Penwortham is a township in Lancashire, England located south of the city of Preston. To find us click here,

Last year we were awarded Child Friendly Church status from the Diocese of Blackburn. We encourage parents with children to come along to our services. We have a comfortable crèche in church where children and parents can sit together and play and read whilst being involved in worship.

St. Mary’s is a Fairtrade parish and we have an extensive range of Traidcraft products for sale in church.

We have disabled facilities (toilets, access and hearing loops) at both our church and church hall.

Lent Lunches

Come and have a light  lunch at the Church Hall during the season of Lent and support a local charity. For a £2 minimum donation you can enjoy Hot soup and a roll with cheese and biscuits and tea or coffee. Lunches are on  every Tuesday in Lent starting on 7th March. 12.00 noon until 1.00 pm

MUSIC GROUP: NO AUDITIONS!! NO AGE LIMITS

You do not need to be able to read music - only the desire to make music. We all have God-given gifts to share. Coming together to do this can be so much fun, joy and a journey of discovery and confidence building. Initially I have an idea for Mothering Sunday (4th in Lent) but lots more besides, both traditional and contemporary and maybe even some music from Africa and other countries. Remember as St Augustine said, he/she who sings, prays twice and we can never have enough prayer. See me at church or contact me at home. Looking forward to hearing from you. Rhoda
